The frontal sliding window offers a stunning seaview, so in consultation with the owners, we oriented the seating, dining, and cooking areas to face this vista. By tilting and raising the kitchen island, we opened up the view towards Zeebrugge beach. A bespoke, made-to-measure sofa extends into the kitchen, creating a seamless connection through material and design.

In the heart of the apartment, we designed a spacious hall that seamlessly blurs the boundary between day and night functions. This hallway is illuminated by light streaming through glass doors, which lead to storage, the toilet, and the bathroom. A curtain space divider, created in collaboration with Studio Nathalie Van der Massen, allows for flexible zoning of the space. The concept for the wavy curtain emerged from meetings with the design team and owners, inspired by the sea, achieved through layered and combed fabric to mimic the undulating waves.

The sand-colored carpet extends beyond the floor to cover walls, seating elements, and a bedframe, reinforcing our concept of blurring boundaries. At the back of the apartment, we created a dormitory with a master double bed and four single beds. By utilizing the height of the space, we reinterpreted the classic bunk bed. This area features a dynamic mix of rough steel, oak veneer, beige carpet, bright blue, and concrete. The bathroom features a variety of blue finishes, from matte to high gloss, with a walk-in shower that doubles as a bath. A window at the back of the shower provides natural light and ventilation, enhancing the sense of connectivity within the apartment.
