In Utero
In Utero is a multidisciplinary doctors practice focusing on child birth and young children. Working with the team of In Utero for the second time was an enriching experience, and it deepened the trust we share throughout the design process. The former semi industrial office space was stripped to it's bare structure. One of our primary goals was to enhance the circulation within the practice. Previously, the circulation felt dark and narrow, and it was located far from the entrance area. To address this, we removed a piece of the floor, giving the circulation a central and prominent role.

The new staircase is a structure made of corten steel, designed to appeal to the diverse moods of every visitor upon entering. The frameless skylight that crowns the staircase adds a touch of 'drama', enriching the vertical experience and filling the area with natural light. Right at the front, you'll be greeted by the reception area, along with a convenient blood collection room. The entire reception desk is made of polyester, a material renowned for its unique tactility. To add a touch of tranquility, we've incorporated graphic blue curtains, meticulously crafted by the talented designer Wiesi Will. One of the few things the client explicitly requested was a spacious waiting area, they even humorously referred to it as a "buggyparking". We crafted a waiting room that serves a dual purpose: Its ample size allows it to double up as a 'boardroom' when needed, accommodating lectures and important gatherings.

Upstairs we integrated glass brick flooring to enrich daylighting. Furthermore we extended the use of our chosen design tools and materials: we utilized bold blue curtains to create privacy dividers within the gynaecology practice and oak veneer paneling adds elegance, softening concrete surfaces. We frequently use the concrete structures to create captivating bespoke elements. Examples of this are the suspended wooden hanging cabinets and polyester desk. Every artwork hanging their walls is a result of a partnership with Everyday Gallery. The ultimate aim was to create a unique and immersive environment, bringing art closer to the patients in a less common way.
