Noordstraat
Coastal home for a family of five. In the beautiful village of Retranchement, the Netherlands, we renovated and extended this semi-detached house. We added a ground floor volume for the kitchen and dining room, opening up the rest of the house for a larger living room and kid's room/guest room. The black woodwork is typical to the seaside region where the house is located. In this renovation we reinterpretated this trademark style.

The bright interior contrasts with the black woodwork of the additional volume. The floor is a soft toned cement floor and unites all the functions on the groundfloor. Part of the milwork is warm wood iroko elements with a striking red concrete kitchen.

The briefing for the kitchen was to have it as integrated as possible with the other functions. So we 'sliced' up the functions in three spatial separate elements; cooking, coffee and storage.

The materiality and colours of the kitchen are repeated throughout the house. In the fireplace we worked with a red concrete frame for the fireplace. The groundfloor bathroom tilework is a warm red, linking it witht the kitchen concrete.
